Zimbabwe: unions grill government over labour flexibilisation plans - commentsZimbabwe: unions grill government over labour flexibilisation plans2015-04-16T08:46:24Zhttps://www.equaltimes.org/zimbabwe-unions-grill-government#comment965772015-04-16T08:46:24Z
What the Zimbabwean government is doing is tantamount to bringing back slavery where the worker has no say. Labour Market flexibility according to the announcement by the Honnorable Minister of finance is targeting to satisfy the employers and the so called investors at the cost of innocent workers. They want to relax the labour laws and remove the protection for workers to allow the employers or the investing companies to hire and fire workers at free will.
The minister claimed that the current labour laws are too rigid and favour workers hence investors find it difficult to do buiness in the country. So the investor has become a priority more than citizens. Which mother feeds the neighbour kids first and forget her own? Most workers are going for months without payment of wages. and as if that is not enough they want to freeze as well as cut the wages down. They even do that without respecting the collective bargaining platforms or social diualogue platforms available to discuss such issues. This is what we as ZCTU demonstrated against and we will continue to do so until they see reason.
