I would be interested to know why the Spanish Government do not intervene in TV publicity to try educate people on caring for animals. I honestly believe reforms of Spanish culture regarding cruelty to animals should be made especially during locally cruel fiestas..How dare the police turn a blind eye and how dare the locals rally around to pay the fine while animals are enduring great suffering in the name of the church and Virgin Mary? Why not make publicity showing what happens to dogs abandoned on motorways causing accidents and killing people? The TV is the best media to get points across such as drug addiction, mental health problems and caring for animals. Other countries do this so isn't it about time that Spain came out of the past and modernises itself using the media?

I am.only a visitor here so far, hoping to become resident one day.i am sorry that I cannot yet write this in Spanish. i dont wish to be hypocritical.
I am concerned about adoption by both some locals and expats, to the degree where they are overrun with dogs but still feeling guilty that they cannot take on more. Dogs are dumped on their doorsteps because no one wants to take responsibility. Many expats, too, abandon dogs. As they do in the UK.
The constant rescuing just exacerbates the problem. Surely education is needed. In schools, to try and change the perception of dogs as playthings to be cast off when the novelty wears off?
